additional detailed driving directions

From the San Francisco International Airport:
From the Oakland International Airport:
From the Muni turnstile:
  • Take the escalators down and take the N-Judah (Outbound – heads to Ocean Beach) (travel time: 35 minutes)
  • Get off at the Irving and 2nd Ave stop (they usually announce this as the UCSF Medical Center stop)
  • The tall UCSF buildings are to your left. Cross the street and take the elevators up to Parnassus Ave.
  • There are two locations to take the elevator:
(a) if you enter by way of the parking garage (the walkway with an awning over it) then you walk ahead and towards the right, past the bicycle storage area, and the elevators are at the end of that walkway. Take the elevator to Level I – when exiting the elevators, turn right- walk past the Subway sandwich store and walk up the stairs. Turn right at the top of the stairs, walk towards the street – that’s Parnassus Ave. Turn right when you get to the street – in about 30 paces you’ll see the Library entrance to your right.
(b) if you enter by the glass double doors (this is where you end up crossing to if you happen to be in the last car of the train), then walk down the corridor and take the elevators up to Level J. That takes you up to Parnassus Ave. Turn right and walk one block to the Library.

Take a virtual tour of UCSF Library.
